Sometimes a ghost will stay back to make sure that their family is ajusting to they're being gone. They will wait until they are ajusted then leave. Although, the spirit may need to communicate a message and will not leave until the message is clear.
When a human experiences sudden death, like a car accident, or a murder, it will get confused. It thinks it is still alive, therefore it will stick around. Having alot of pictures of the human that died up in your house or having their room exactly the way it was before will give in to the confusion.
